Advantages And Disadvantages Of Different
Breast Implants
Saline Breast Implants
Saline implants are sacs filled with saline or sterile salt
water. Depending upon the desired size of the breast, there are three types of
saline implants. They are inserted through four different ways - the armpit,
the belly button, under the breast, or outside of the areola.
Pros
- The
most important advantage that saline breast implants provide over silicone
implants is safety. As against silicone implants that are reportedly
causing serious health issues in patients, the human body easily absorbs
the saline solution in case of leakage or rupture of a saline implant.
- Additionally,
any rupture is easily visible from the deflating shape of the breasts and
hence, can be replaced immediately.
- Compared
to silicone implants, saline implants are less expensive.
Cons
- Saline
implants do not offer a natural appearance to breasts as they create
ripples and wrinkles in the texture of the skin. This is particular in
case of thin women who have less breast tissues to cover over the
implants.
- Saline
implants also carry the risk of capsular contracture, wherein scar tissues
form around and squeeze the implants, thereby causing the breasts to
harden up.
- As
with other implants surgery, saline implants are also likely to cause
infection, pain, and nerve damage.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone implants offer a more natural look and feel than
other types of breast implants as silicone gel is similar to breast tissue in
consistency. Silicone breast implants comprise of silicone shells that are
filled up with silicone gel. They come in a variety of shapes to suit an
individual’s needs.
Pros
- The
greatest advantage of choosing silicone implants over saline ones is the
natural appearance. These silicone implants contain silicone gel that
closely resembles natural breast tissue, thereby giving an individual more
bustier and natural boobs.
- Because
silicone gel is similar to the natural breast tissue, silicone implants
are virtually undetectable after being placed. Also, they do not create
wrinkles in the creases of the breasts.
- Further,
due to the thickness of the silicone gel, the chances of rippling reduce
to a great extent, which is otherwise common with saline implants. Thus,
women with smaller breasts achieve better results with silicone implants.
- Even
if the silicone implants rupture; they do not spill out and maintain their
volume. Also, they do not make ‘liquid’ sounds during physical activities.
Cons
- In
case of rupturing, silicone implants do not lose out on their volume, but
can be quite risky. With saline implants, rupturing is immediately visible
as the saline solution quickly dispatches and the implant collapses.
Conversely, silicone implants do not leak but remain intact in the cavity,
thereby making detection difficult.
- Considering
the occurrence of capsular contracture, silicone implants carry higher
risks than saline implants. This causes scar tissues to form that compress
the breast implants, giving them a harder feeling.
- Apart
from being costly, silicone implants are not a life-lasting solution. One
has to get an MRI done every couple of years to detect any ruptures.
- Changing
the size of silicone implants is a complicated procedure as one has to
undergo another surgery to get the job done.
A doctor recommended me the silicone ones and I will follow his advice.
ReplyDeleteSo next year I will go for a Toronto breast augmentation, because I want to be able to wear whatever I want and to look great in dresses... of course that I want to have a natural aspect, not artificial.
